How to Create High Quality Videos Using Your Phone cover

On every single social media platform imaginable, the most important factor in content creation is creating the highest quality of content possible using the tools you currently have. In this post not only will you be able to take away how to create better content for our platform, but also for other platforms and in your everyday life.

Lighting

If you don’t have access to professional-grade lighting, the next best thing is to utilize the natural light that you have pouring into your home or filming space. Unless absolutely necessary (for example, if you’re only able to film at night), do your best to avoid warm-toned artificial lighting!

Creative tip: If you or a family member has coloured lights (or if you have the means to purchase some), those are alwaysuper fun and creative touch to add to your videos. If we have a colour-themed challenge, this would also be an awesome way to participate in a unique way!

Angles

Creative angles are always encouraged, however, if you’re new to being on the other side of the camera it’s always best to start out simple before you try anything crazy! Not everyone has a tripod - and they’re definitely not necessary. Next time you’re filming a video and wish you were capturing a slightly higher perspective, your best bet is to create a 2 piece setup. The first piece will be the base, which can be anything from a pile of books to a dining table. The second will be the support, which is what will keep your phone upright. For the support piece, you want to find something that’s heavy or sticky enough to not slide on your base piece - resulting in the dreaded phone fall. (Pictured below, you’ll find a traditional tripod)

Pro tip: Think outside the box when creating your DIY tripod! Support pieces can be difficult to find - so here are a few examples of everyday items you can use to keep your phone upright. Water bottle Plant pot Window sill Glass candle Heavier decor (think small gnomes, sculptures, vases…)

Backgrounds

Looking to get creative with your next video or recording? The at-home possibilities when it comes to backgrounds are limitless. If you’re looking to add some colour, purchase a coloured bristol board from your local dollar store and use tape to gently attach it to a plain wall. GENTLY is the key word here, because we don’t want any of your paint being ripped off! Any background that’s located in a space with natural light is sure to upgrade your video quality. So set up your DIY tripod, get creative, and get recording your favourite songs on SingSnap!
